Online SPoI Coming This Fall

Online administration of the Student Perception of Instruction (SPoI) (the end-of-course evaluation for all course sections) has been traditionally associated with only online courses. Beginning in fall 2009, all UCF courses will use an online version of the SPoI.  Moving from a Scantron-based form to an online form has been under study for several years by Faculty Affairs, Faculty Senate, Information Technologies & Resources, and the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning. Following a discussion in the Faculty Senate, the decision by its Steering Committee last spring was to move forward. Technical development began during the summer months.

Initially, the online form will contain the same questions and format as the paper-based Scantron form currently used by most courses.  However, alternative SPoI forms are being considered for possible future use. Students will access the online SPoI form through the myUCF portal. Moving the SPoI online will significantly reduce the work required to handle paper-based forms, cost associated with the paper-based forms, and will also greatly speed data collection and analysis, allowing results to be made available more rapidly.
